Biography & GeographySerena Anne was born in Sinixt traditional territory
To parents of Irish , Scottish, Swedish , Nordic and Miꞌkmaw ancestory. When she was 5 she left her childhood home in the kootneys of apple trees , chickens and a homestead and landed in the desert valley of the Okangan territory of the Sylix people .
Her new home was in the clay banks of this valley rich in fruit trees, sagebrush and rolling hills.
This is home to bear , coyote , fox, the dessert pocket mouse, rattlesnake, antelope brush and cacti .
Serena’s fondest memories included making mud cakes, riding horses and travelling in her dads blue bus
Her favourite movies were Anne of Green Gables , Annie , the incredible journey , and wildlife nature shows .
Serena went on to work at the Calgary Zoo where she continued deepening in her animal and wildlife connections .
When it was time to fly ,
she found her wings
And served from the sky
Working for airlines as a barefoot stewardess
While trying to do her best to follow the rules
She found herself kicking the heels off as quick as she
Could to find the sacred places in nature
The airline would take her too
From Cuba , thru Mexico she would travel
Spending her time writing travel stories and meeting strangers and angels all around .
After 7 years she felt her time was done
And was called back to the Earth , to sink her roots in
So she bought a touring bike , traded in her wings
And cycled across BC and spent the next years closely learning with the land
Serena’s deepest inspiration and reconnection to her life’s work happened when she moved to Baffin Island, in the Arctic
She had the opportunity to work closely with children as a kindergarten teacher and resident assistant of a Baha’i house sharing healing art therapies
and deep Nature connection
The children were her teachers
After such a rich cultural experience Serena felt she needed to finally travel to her home lands of her ancestors
She began to study her Irish lineage and found a medicine teacher in Ireland,
Learning and gathering the stories of the people who came before, Her- story , the oral way , before the coming of colonizers and written his -story . The ways of the grandmothers , the Nature spirits and the emerald aisle .
In Scotland , she connected with volcanic coast, the caves , the stone people , the seal people of the North and then her great grandfathers , the brave hearts of the highlands.
Serena is now a Nature mentor in a forest school on Vancouver island home to lekwegan speaking peoples and coast Salish
She gets to weave stories and
Mentor the children to reconnect to the land, to themselves, and to each other. .
she enjoys building fairy and gnome garden villages , sharing ancestral skills of fire making ,wool fiber arts , and plant spirit connection …and returning her bare feet
in the mud .
She acknowledges and gives praise to the Creator and has reverence and Awe for the Created
